We’ve cut the dealing spread on our Italy 40 index, down to just eight points on our Standard contracts. The Italy 40 index is a weighted average of the 40 largest companies in Italy and gives you the chance to take a position on the broader health of the Italian economy.

Why trade Italy 40?

The European debt crisis has placed the continent firmly in the economic spotlight this year, with the recent bailout in Ireland the latest major factor affecting world markets. While the Irish rescue has been welcomed, fears remain that contagion may spread to other countries, including the likes of Spain, Portugal and even Italy.

Italy is the third largest economy in the eurozone – its relatively good financial position partly down to a relatively stable banking system – but the Italian government’s forecast economic growth of just 1% for this year and next potentially puts that stability at risk.
